Alphabetical order.

Some people meet their spouses online. Some in a coffee shop or bar. Me and B? Well, we owe our destiny to the alphabet. You see, he’s a “K”. I was a “J”. And during my Junior and his Senior years of high school, we both decided to take an architectural drafting class and were seated next to each other. And the rest is history as they say.
Now as one of the only girls in the class, I took my fair share of good natured ribbing. So when B asked me to his senior prom, I totally thought he was joking. I mean, we had sat next to each other all year. I had just coached him through asking someone else out (good thing for me it didn’t work out). I didn’t take him seriously. Why would he want to go to his senior prom with me?
So for about three weeks I had no idea we were really going to prom. Two weeks before we went, B asked me if I would like to go with his group of friends or mine. None of my friends were going so we decided to go with his friends. Um, yeah. Intimidating b/c B was a lot more popular than I. Two letter athlete. Super smart. I mean, the prom king and queen were going in our group. Intimidating indeed! But I made it through.
So here we are. On our “first date”.

We dated all that summer.

I was hesitant to continue dating after he left for college. Even though he was only a couple hours away, I didn’t know if it would work. If we would want to make it work. He left and we decided to take those two weeks between him leaving and then coming home for Labor to think about things.
I decided I couldn’t live without him. He agreed.

My homecoming. (B would like me to point out that he is not orange in this photo. Just how it came out since I just snapped a picture with my digital of the hard copy!).

My senior prom.
Seven long years later, he put a ring on it!

And that is the story of “us”.
Any other high school sweethearts out there?

  1. Aw, that is so sweet! I love how you met. I feel like high school sweethearts marrying seems to be more rare nowadays (most of our couple friends all met during or post college). Mitch and I are also high school sweethearts, although we didn't go to the same high school - we met through a youth group :)
